What is there to love about Lincoln this season?

Location is everything when it comes choosing a new home.

The fine architecture, fascinating history and cultural heritage of the compact city of Lincoln are a perfect contrast to the peace and tranquillity of Lakeshore. Leave your car on the drive and take a short stroll to Burton Waters Marina for a bus to the city (buses stop at The Landings).

A new beginning

Spring is often the season which inspires new beginnings, bringing peace and hope.

Residents at Lakeshore are noticing new growth in the natural meadow.

Perennial plants sprout new shoots while flowering evergreens prepare to bloom. Daffodils carpet local areas, their abundant yellow brightens the landscape, appearing to smile at us. Migrant birds fly north while the first swallows arrive from Africa now insect food becomes plentiful to feed their young.

Days become longer and we welcome the lightness which stretches into evening with the promise of summer.

Is it this natural abundance and growth which inadvertently compels so many people to start a new life or set new goals this season?

Have you decided to sell up, move house and plan a change in your life now that spring time is here?

Water wildlife

One special feature at Lakeshore is the private lake.

Lakes and ponds have disappeared from much of the country’s farmland which makes this water haven all the more special for Lakeshore residents.

No-one minds the spring dawn chorus as birds flit around the greenery gathering nesting materials. Everyone loves the wildlife the water attracts, providing a home for birds, plants and insects.

Every home at Lakeshore has a private garden and patio or decking. Some residents grow vegetables, herbs and flowers in patio tubs, adding more greenery and fragrance to the outdoor view from the window. Blueberries, strawberries and tomatoes, mint, lavender and sage are easily grown in pots.

Three of the best gardens in Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire is rich with hidden gems where you can enjoy beautiful countryside away from the crowds.

Soon you may be tempted (temporarily) away from Lakeshore for trips out to Lincolnshire’s gardens, towns, villages, countryside and coastline.

  1. You’ll feel at one with nature at Easton where orchids and other rich flora bloom in the meadow there. The fifth generation of the Chomley family are creating the magic of wildlife and urge you to “Pause and listen to the birdsong in the big trees or watch the intense concentration with which a bee feeds” when you visit. Return again for Sweet Pea Week in July. Continue into Grantham to explore the birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton.
  2. The family-run Goltho Gardens at Market Rasen with its wildflower meadow is best seen in Spring. Goltho Gardens owes its success to its volunteers who plant, propagate and weed the grounds. They keep the hedges trimmed, the trees pruned, make compost and help answer visitors’ questions in return for home-made biscuits from the teashop. Market Rasen is a good base to start exploring The Wolds. Visit on Tuesday, Friday or Saturday for market day and have a beer in Lincolnshire’s oldest thatched pub.
  3. A gardens to take the grandchildren: Elsham Hall Gardens and Country Park. The 4-acre walled garden was once the private garden for the ‘big house’. Now, it’s open for everyone to enjoy and features a sensory garden. End your visit with the quintessential English afternoon tea in the Secret Garden café.

Peaceful way of life

Back at Lakeshore, you’ll return to the wildlife zone in your own ‘back yard’ – the park, meadow and lake.
